REVIEWS & FAQ

How many trees can be saved by using grass instead of trees? Every roll of grass-based paper helps reduce the need for tree-based paper. The paper industry uses a massive amount of trees each year, and estimates vary depending on the source and type of paper being measured. Some reports estimate tens of thousands to millions of trees are cut daily for paper and paper-related products. At GrassTB, our mission is simple: use fast-growing, abundant grass instead of cutting down trees for disposable paper products.

Why does tree-based paper require so much wood? Tree-based paper pulp uses the main trunk of the tree. Branches, leaves, and other parts are generally not used for making the soft pulp needed for paper products like toilet paper. It can take a large amount of trees to make paper pulp. Based on our production estimates, it can take about 12 tons of trees to produce 1 ton of paper pulp. That same 1 ton of pulp can produce roughly 5,000 to 6,000 rolls of toilet paper, depending on roll size, sheet count, thickness, and product design.

How much grass does it take to make paper pulp? Grass is a much more renewable fiber source because it grows back quickly and is widely available. Based on our production estimates, it takes about 5 tons of grass to produce 1 ton of pulp. A large grass field, such as a golf course grass area, can produce around 5 to 10 tons of grass, depending on size, growing conditions, and harvesting volume. That means grass can provide a practical alternative fiber source without cutting down trees.

Why is grass a better choice for disposable paper products? Grass grows back much faster than trees and can be harvested more frequently. Trees can take years or decades to grow, but grass is naturally renewable and abundant. Using grass for everyday paper products helps: Reduce dependence on tree-based paper Protect forests and wildlife habitats Create another income source for farmers Use an abundant fiber that grows back quickly Make sustainable paper more affordable Disposable paper should not require cutting down forests. Grass gives us a better option.

Where are GrassTB products made? GrassTB originally made pulp in Colorado and shipped it to a paper mill in Vietnam to be turned into finished paper. However, that process was costly and inefficient. We eventually moved production closer to the paper mill and began working directly with local farmers in Vietnam. Today, we buy grass from local farmers, turn that grass into pulp, and then send the pulp to a paper mill in another city to be made into finished paper products. This approach reduces unnecessary shipping costs, helps keep prices more competitive, and supports farmers by giving them another source of income. Our goal is to make sustainable paper products affordable enough for more people to choose them.

Why not make everything in the USA? We would love to manufacture more in the United States, but we were not able to find a U.S. paper mill willing to partner with us at the time. Making pulp in Colorado and shipping it overseas to be turned into paper was not practical long-term because of the added cost and logistics. By moving production closer to the paper mill and sourcing grass from local farmers, we can reduce costs, improve efficiency, and still support an environmentally focused supply chain.

Does GrassTB toilet paper dissolve faster than traditional toilet paper? Yes. GrassTB toilet paper dissolves much faster than many traditional paper products, especially recycled paper. Recycled fibers often do not bond together as easily, so some companies may use adhesives or bonding agents to strengthen the paper. GrassTB uses virgin grass pulp, which helps create a softer paper without relying on the same heavy recycled-fiber process. This makes our toilet paper a strong option for people who want a paper product that breaks down more easily while still being comfortable for everyday use.

Are your products available at Walmart or Amazon? Some GrassTB products are available through Walmart. However, we are not currently selling on Amazon because the platform fees are very high for a small business. The best way to support GrassTB is to buy directly from our website. Buying directly helps us keep more of the sale, continue growing the brand, and invest in our mission. GrassTB is also available through the UNFI distribution network, and we are actively looking for more local stores, schools, universities, government offices, event centers, and environmentally conscious organizations to carry or use our products.

Is GrassTB toilet paper strong when wet? GrassTB toilet paper is designed to be soft and dissolvable, so it may not feel as thick or heavy as some conventional toilet paper brands. If you need extra strength for certain uses, using an extra sheet can help. Because our toilet paper is made to break down more easily, it is best used as toilet paper rather than as a replacement for paper towels or tissues.

Does GrassTB toilet paper leave lint? Like most toilet paper, GrassTB toilet paper may leave a small amount of lint, but it should not be excessive or highly noticeable. Some conventional toilet paper brands can leave behind a lot of paper dust or lint. GrassTB is designed to be soft, clean, and comfortable while still breaking down efficiently.

How do GrassTB napkins compare to the paper towels? GrassTB napkins are similar in concept to the paper towels, but they are designed for dining, meals, and lighter cleanup. They should hold up to normal moisture and everyday use, but for heavier cleaning jobs or wet messes, our paper towels are the better choice.

Why do some paper products smell like chemicals when wet? Some paper products, especially recycled paper products, may have odors because of the way the fibers are processed. Recycled fibers often come from materials such as cardboard or other paper sources, which may need to be washed, bleached, treated, and bonded back together. GrassTB uses mostly virgin grass pulp, so our products do not need to go through the same heavy recycled-fiber process. We focus on creating paper products that are cleaner, softer, and better for people who want to avoid unnecessary harsh processing.

Are toxic chemicals used to make GrassTB products? GrassTB’s mission is to reduce harmful environmental impact and create a better alternative to conventional tree-based paper. Because we use mostly virgin grass pulp, we avoid many of the harsh steps often associated with recycled paper processing. Our focus is on making paper products that are practical, affordable, and more environmentally responsible.

How does grass compare to bamboo paper? Bamboo is often marketed as a sustainable paper source, but bamboo is still a plant that must be cut down and harvested. Bamboo also grows only in certain climates, is used for many other products such as building materials and woodwork, and can be expensive as a paper-making material. Grass is different because it is abundant, fast-growing, widely available, and often underused. By using grass, we can create an alternative paper source without depending on trees or high-cost bamboo supply chains.

Why use grass instead of hemp? Hemp can be used for paper, but it must be cultivated, harvested, processed, and managed under additional regulations. Grass is already abundant and available, which makes it a more practical and affordable option for everyday disposable paper products. Our goal is not just to create a sustainable paper product — it is to create one that people can actually afford to use every day.

Are GrassTB products better for the environment? GrassTB products are designed to reduce dependence on tree-based paper. By using grass as an alternative fiber source, we help create demand for materials that do not require cutting down forests for disposable paper products. Our mission is to offer paper products that help protect forests, support farmers, reduce wasteful practices, and give customers a more environmentally responsible choice.

GrassTB offers a strong mission, competitive pricing, and a practical alternative to traditional paper. Together, we can reduce dependence on tree-based paper and help more people discover better alternatives.

GrassTB gives people a way to be part of the solution. I don’t think enough people know there are paper products made from something other than trees. Thanks for being innovators.

A smart choice for portable restroom service.

We use GrassTB toilet paper with our portable potties, and it performs very well. The toilet paper sinks to the bottom almost instantly, which helps prevent dirty paper from floating on top and creating odor. This makes a noticeable difference in keeping our portable restrooms cleaner, fresher, and more pleasant for customers.

Michelle B, Aurora

Great for families and better for the planet.

GrassTB toilet paper has been a great choice for our family. We love that it is made from grass instead of trees, so we know we are supporting a product that helps protect the environment. The rolls are bigger and last longer than traditional toilet paper, which is a big plus in a household with kids. Even when our kids use more than they should, the paper breaks down quickly and has never clogged our toilet.
